Hesperia Park

Located just a short ten-minute walk from both the Central Railway Station and Oodi, Hesperia Park is a hidden gem for birdwatching in the heart of Helsinki. Once an industrial and residential area, the park is now a green oasis surrounding Töölönlahti Bay, complete with a 2.2 km recreational path that’s fully accessible for wheelchairs and strollers.

The park is a birdwatcher’s paradise, with a wide variety of avian species to observe. From common city birds to rare seabirds, the park is always alive with the sound of chirping and tweeting. However, it’s important to note that some birds, for example, seagulls and mallards, can become aggressive if they see food, so it’s best not to feed them or eat in their presence.

It’s also worth mentioning that the park is home to a large population of birds, which means that bird droppings are a common sight and can create an unpleasant smell.

During nesting season, some birds may also become more aggressive to protect their nests and offspring, so it’s important to be mindful of their space and not get too close.
Despite these considerations, Hesperia Park remains an excellent destination for birdwatchers of all skill levels and is perfect for a short walk.
